The Flow Cytometry platform has a new FACS analyzer BD LSR Fortessa

In September 2016, the GIGA Flow Cytometry core facility acquired a new flow cytometer analyzer, the BD LSR Fortessa equipped with a High Throughput Sampler (HTS) module. This FACS delivers the optimal sensitivity and resolution required for multicolor applications since it can be used to detect 18 colors simultaneously thanks to the 5 laser lines that it supports. With this equipment, it will be the first time that the GIGA Flow Cytometry platform users will have access to a UV laser (355 nm, 20mW). Therefore, assay design can be optimized using the latest BUV fluorescent dyes. On the other side, the optical bench concerning the 405, 488, 561 and 633 nm laser lines is exactly the same as those of our two FACS Cell Sorter FACSAria III. This means that the users will be able to do extended cell phenotyping on the LSR Fortessa and then precise cell sorting on the FACSAria after following a standardize application setup protocol.

 

Moreover, the experimental workflow will be improved thanks to the High Throughput Sampler (HTS) option that supports a wide range of research applications and is compatible with 96-welll U, V and flat-bottom plates as well as 384-well microtiter plates. This HTS provides rapid, fully automated sample acquisition. Indeed, for example, the HTS can process a 96-well plate in fewer than 15 minutes.
