Research

The center was created within the University of Liege in October 2003 and first included about 20 research laboratories working in different areas while using genoproteomic approaches.

Since early 2007, GIGA Research has developed a structure of 7 thematic research units (TRU), ie a total of more than 550 researchers from 4 different Faculties (Medicine, Science, Applied Sciences and Veterinary Medicine).

This multidisciplinarity together with the pooling of technical, logistic and administrative resources is one of the major features of GIGA-Research.

Research center of excellence

During the last five years , teams from GIGA R published lots of articles in international reviews (see all the publications) and several members were awarded important distinctions.

Collaborations with clinicians of the CHU

GIGA research is the only research center in the « Communauté Française de Belgique » which is so closely associated to a major university hospital like the CHU. A close collaboration has now been set up since a couple of years with the clinicians of the CHU and made it possible to carry out an outstanding translational research.

International collaborations

GIGA Research works with a lot of university centers around the world and the center  regularly welcomes  foreign researchers who  join the existing teams.
